Working Principle
The measurement of dissolved oxygen is based on the Clark electrode principle, where a selective membrane separates the water sample from the electrode. Since oxidizing and reducing ions cannot pass through the oxygen-permeable membrane, no sample conditioning is required. When a constant voltage is applied across the two electrodes, dissolved oxygen is reduced at the platinum electrode (cathode) to form hydroxide ions.
Cathode: O + 2HO + 4e→ 4OH
The oxidation reaction takes place on the surface of the silver electrode (anode).
Anode: 4Ag + 4Cl → 4AgCl + 4e
The redox reaction generates a diffusion current, and the magnitude of the current is directly proportional to the dissolved oxygen concentration.
Features and Advantages
● High accuracy and high sensitivity: Detection limit down to 0.001 μg/L, with a resolution of 0.001 μg/L.
● Fast response and measurement: It generally takes only 3 minutes to measure from oxygen concentration in air down to the μg/L level.
● Simple operation and calibration: Measurement can be started immediately after power-on, without a long electrode polarization time.
● Long electrode life: The long service life reduces the cost of frequent electrode replacement.
● Long maintenance interval and low consumable cost: Electrode maintenance is required every 6 to 8 months under normal use, making maintenance simple and convenient.
● Low power consumption and long operating time: Powered by dry batteries, with continuous operation up to 1500 hours.
● High protection rating and user-friendly design: Fully waterproof body, magnetic attachment, compact and portable.
